Arrow House | Mark Lam - Architect | Footscray | 2016

Refurbishment and extension to existing Victorian double-fronted weatherboard house.

The form and character of the original house is preserved with the new works indiscernible from the street.

A new living and dining area, kitchen, study and amenities form the new.

Sustainable design features:

  • Feature triangular double-glazed windows in the living area used to frame views of the garden and to control the glare from the hot western sun.

  • Rescued Golden Cypress timber used for kitchen box cladding and decking.

  • Recyclable steel cladding to living area.

  • Solar panels.

  • Rainwater used to flush toilets and for garden irrigation.

  • Heat pump technology to generate hot water.

  • Thermal chimney for natural ventilation.

  • Exposed concrete slab for thermal stability.
